Post 6: English Language Challenge

I think that learning English is something fundamental nowadays, both at university, where we have to read documents in English, and in our personal life, where at some point we will be confronted with conversations in English, whether in another country or in Chile.

In my opinion I think that some of the topics we wrote about in the blog were not very interesting for me but it was good because it helps us to think and write in English from a more personal point of view.

 

In English I need to learn more vocabulary because there are still a lot of words I don't know and that makes it difficult for me to speak correctly, I also want to improve my pronunciation more. This could be improved by reading more in English and talking more with other people.

I think English is present every day of my life because I like to watch movies and series in English, listen to music, read some things and sometimes I have conversations in English with my boyfriend and my roomie just for fun.

Post 5: Changes to my Study Program

 As students we often reflect on what things we would like to change in our career, I think that one of the most important aspects is to improve the empathy of teachers towards students, because some teachers are very demanding, affecting our mental health and well-being, because we feel a lot of pressure for everything we have to study and practice and we have little time to carry out all the activities that are asked of us.

Another thing that I would like to change about my career is looking for patients to attend to, this can sometimes be very difficult because we need specific pathologies or specific oral problems. And sometimes our grades depends on the patient, because if the patient does not attend it affects our grades. 

I think that more rooms are needed in the faculty because at the moment not all our classes are face-to-face because there is not enough space for so many people.

Another very important aspect of the career is that the monthly fee is very expensive and apart from that year after year we have to buy the materials that we will use, which are also very expensive. I think it would be good if the university lowered the price a little considering all the expenses in materials. 

Post 4: Time travel to the future

 I´m the kind of person who always lives in the future because I´m very anxious therefore I´m always making plans for my future, that´s why sometimes it´s very difficult for me to enjoy the present and be relaxed. 

If I can travel to the future I would like to visit myself when I´m older, as in forty more years, and I would like to ask myself some questions and ask for some advice about my life. I think this would be epic and incredible. 

I don't think I would like to stay in the future because I imagine that the planet will be very catastrophic, because the natural resources will be almost exhausted. But anyway I would like to know all the technological advances that we will have in the future.

However, I am uncertain about the future because I don't really know what I might find and that scares me a little bit.  Also, I think that it could generate time paradoxes and that would be a problem. 

Post 3: My Dream Job

 I´m currently in my second year of dentistry , and I don't know if I can imagine myself in another job in the future, because I really like this career, and I hope to finish it and then choose a speciality or do a doctorate. I don't know what I would like to specialise in, because I´m undecided between maxillofacial surgery and facial aesthetics. I like them both very much and I'm sure I would enjoy either one of them.  

I think I will enjoy the most about my work will be helping people to have a better quality of life through dentistry. 

I would like to have my own clinic and be independent so I can better manage my time. With the income from this clinic I would like to help low-income people who cannot afford dental treatment. 

However things turn out, I would like to continue learning about this career, and educate people about their oral health.

Post 2: The Best Concert ever

I have been to many electronic music festivals, I really like to go and dance, see the lights and the wonderful stages.

 My favorite festival was Dreambeach 2020, it was in Espacio Broadway in Santiago, at this festival I saw one of my favorite Djs, Martin Garrix, I follow him since I was 13 years old and I finally fulfilled my dream of seeing him.

At Dreambeach I saw so many Djs of different styles of electronic music, I danced and jumped all day. 

I went to the festival with one of my best friends, with him we always go to festivals together and we both agree that this was one of the best we have been to. 

The experiencee of going to electronic music festivals is wonderful, spending all day enjoying the music and disconnecting from the outside world for that day.

Post 1: A Country I would like to visit

 The country I would like to visit is Norway because since I was a child I feel a very special conection with this place, I really want to see the Northern lights with my own eyes, I think that experience would be so amazing. I also want to know the different cities of this country, enjoy nature and learn the language, which I think is very beautiful. I would also like to travel in winter to see the snow there and learn to ski.

 Maybe when I´m older I would like to live there and have a peaceful old age full of nature, or maybe work there for a while. 

Post 8: A Subject you've enjoyed studying this semester

 One subject in this second semester that I enjoyed is ¨Destrezas II¨, in the first semester we also had this subject but I liked it much more now, because we had more practical work, where we developed our skills, learning how to use the instruments, how to prepare and mix some of the materials.

The classes were mostly asynchronous but every week on Thursdays we had to connect to the practical activity. The teacher and an assistant were always there guiding us on how to prepare the materials and teaching us how to use them. 

Last week we finally had the experience of attending this subject in person at the university, it was even more entertaining than online, the time I spent there went by very quickly. 

I think it is the subject that brings us closer to the world of dentistry and it is very important that we are taught everything we learn in class from the first year, so that we are better prepared to treat real patients, and also better prepared for the subjects we will have next year. 

Post 7: Career-Related Website

Although it is not a website as such, it is an application that can be downloaded on android and apple and its name is "Human Anatomy Atlas 2021", it is an atlas of general human anatomy in 3D, it has the option to see the bones, muscles, organs and systems of the human body, it is very complete and helps to have a more realistic view of our anatomy. 

I think that for the first year of the career it is very useful to see general anatomy and head and neck anatomy. I used this application in the first semester for the anatomy course and now in the second semester it is a help for the biological and anatomical bases course. 

Sometimes it is difficult to think of body structures in 3D but the atlas helps to make that not so difficult.

In addition, the application includes tests on the subject you want to study and it is a great help.

I like the application because the animations are very nice and of good quality and it allows to have a very complete study of the human body.

Post 6: How Can Your Major Make the World a Better Place

I believe that dentistry can make a positive contribution to people´s health. I chose this career because I think it is beautiful to give smiles to people. The fact we can help them to have a better self-esteem and to feel more confident and beautiful by smiling seems to me to be very important and great contribution on a social and personal level. 

In the future I see myself working with adult patients, educating them about oral disease prevention, treating various problems and performing surgery. I would also like to help and work with low-income people who cannot afford the high cost of treatment. as I have seen people who avoid smiling because they are embarrassed about their teeth and I feel very sorry for them. 

I hope to do my best in this learning process so that I can make a positive contribution to people and society through my work. 

Post 5

This was my cat, his name was Benito Benítez, we adopted him last year when he was only two months and sadly passed away last Sunday because he was sick, he had cancer, it was inevitable and this last time he was suffering a lot because he couldn´t breathe properly.

This photo was taken in the summer and we were in the garden of my house planting some new plants that my father had bought and as always my cats are supervising our work👀

I choose this photo because I like the look of his big yellow eyes and because this photo reminds me of the good life he had, full of love and affection. I miss him too much because he slept with me every night and accompanied me a lot during the day. He was a very good friend and a very special cat, and I believe that he will always be with me in some way. 

Post 4

 My favourite food is pasta, I like noodles because I consider that cooking them is not difficult, and also because there are so many accompaniments and ways to eat them, but especially I like to eat it whit natural tomato sauce and soy meat, I also like to eat noodles with Alfredo sauce, and another way I like to eat it is with scrambled eggs and also with sauteed vegetables. 

I´ve been to Italian restaurants and ordered pizzas and pastas, but one of the best pasta dishes I´ve eaten was at a restaurant in Olmué, I don´t remember the name of the place, I only know that it has been one of the dishes I have enjoyed the most in my life.

Ever since I was a child it has been my favourite food and I don´t think that will change, I think I could eat noodles every day and I wouldn´t get bored of them, but I don´t think that would be very good for my health.

 My favourite technological object is the mobile phone, because it´s small, light and you can take it with you everywhere, so I can take pictures of places, people and thing I like instantly and effectively. Another thing I like about the mobile phone is that I can listen to music on my headphones while travelling or walking. It is also useful to look for addresses with Google maps or Waze and not to get lost in unknown places, and also to look for information in general, read books, learn new things with tutorials or videos. 

My first mobile phone was a birthday present from my grandmother when I was 9 years old, and I remember I was very happy because I could call my family.

The mobile phone is important to communicate, because we can talk to people who are far away, even in other countries, but I think it also has its negative side because in my case sometimes I use it too much and I think it would be difficult for me not to use it, but is important for me to try to reduce the daily use in order not to be dependent.

Since I was a child I have had a great love and admiration for animals, that´s why I wanted to become a veterinarian, but as I got older I became more involved in health area because of my mother, she is a nursing technician and she works in a hospital with children, that´s why from an early age I know medical terms, names of diseases and medicines. During high school I always knew that I wanted to study something related to health.

When I finished my last year of high school I decided to study medical technology and I studied less than a semester at this same university, but it wasn´t what I expected, I didn´t feel motivated by the career for various reasons, so I left medical technology and decided to study dentistry. Now I feel satisfied and motivated to be here, I like what we learn in class, even if it´s difficult. 

In the future I hope to specialise in maxillofacial surgery, because one of my dreams is to do surgery to help and heal people. 

Post 1: Who I am?

Hi my name is Ayleen, I´m 21 years old and my birthday is on the 1st of july. I was born in Quillota, but in my childhood I lived some years in Valparaíso. I currently live in La Cruz, a town near Quillota in the 5th region, it´s a very quiet place and a bit boring sometimes, but I still like living here. In the future I would like to live in another country or maybe in the south of Chile.

In my free time I like to watch series, documentaries and movies, especially science fiction. One of my favourite series is ¨Dark¨ because it´s about time travel and paradoxes. I also enjoy being in nature, because that´s where I feel most connected to myself and relaxed. That´s why I love going to the beach, cycling, trekking and everything outdoors. I also like to do sports, I've been doing taekwondo since I was a child, although lately I´ve stopped because I don´t have much time and because of the pandemic. Another thing I like a lot is electronic music, I love going to festivals and dancing.

My family is a bit small because I have no siblings, I only live with my parents. My mom works in a hospital with pediatric patients, that´s why I have been interested in health area since I was a child. The relationship with my parents is very close, we like to go out together and travel.
